Inception: The power of cinema

Sorry folks that I got indolent and made no entries for a long time. But Inception pulled me out of my bed and here I am swayed again by cinema.

Movies like Inception and Avatar define new boundaries of cinema and make everyone to think if normal is sufficient anymore. They let you drift into dream world and give you break from real world.

While Avatar was all about presentation; Inception is all about story. Hats off to Christopher Nolan for making such a masterpiece. Strongest  aspect  of Inception is expansion of such a difficult to understand idea. Sci-Fies usually are filled with loopholes but it leaves no scope to question the integrity of story.   All aspects such as time multiplier effect, losing start of dreams, effect of sub conscious and levels of dreams have been interweaved  perfectly.   Even makes you wonder if it can be real and whether it’s a firsthand experience of Nolan.

Cast of movie is very strong. Marion Cotillard has already proved herself with a Academy award. Leonardo though hasn’t got any Academy, but he needs none. Michael Caine is Nolan’s favorite. After this movie I checked the list of Nolan’s movies and was amazed at the flawless list of entertaining movies. One I was missing was Insomnia and saw it immediately which again turned out to be a good if not great movie. Could not get 'The following' though.  Waiting now for next Nolan movie which is going to be a Batman sequel.

My rating
Inception – 9
Insomnia -7

road to sangam,,,way to go

Another gift from Allahabad after Hasil. A sensitive must watch movie for all. Carefully made without hurting sentiments of anyone. Provokes every1 to break to stop and think.
It’s based on the real story of a muslim mechanic fighting differences, anger and hatred among the community. He has a engine to repair which’ll be used to deliver Mahatma Gandhi’s remains into sangam. But his community is asking him to stop the work due to ongoing struggle with government. How he fights his dilemma and finally makes whole community agree to his cause, that’s the crux.
Acting is accurate as expected from veterans. But I fell for the backdrop of Allahabad. The language, innocent people and simple life everything is shown as virgin as it is. Had a nostalgic feeling throughout the movie.
Its funny discussing hurt locker vs avatar for oscar wen u have movies like this which dont leave a doubt over its quality and needs no award to prove its worth (although it has won many national and international ones and is being called the best Gandhi movie till date).
My rating – 8

a quick summary

Hurt locker: beg to differ …..no lock to heart

i’ll put it simple, i just didn’t like the movie. Its like I m admitting a crime wen movie has gone all the way to Oscars.  if u ask me y, i’ll hv 2 scratch my head to think, infact i m surprised by those who like it n want to ask the same question to them, y?
i dint found nything appealing in the movie. typical american movie based on superman theme, where one is arrogantly enough for all. story was a one liner, that even supporters’ll agree. quite repetitive scenes. i found it a mediocre.
Infact if u don’t tell a man a word abt the movie and let him watch w/o any pre-notion it’ll b easy enough to ignore. My rating- 6
abt avatar, a gr8 effort is gone into movie which reflects on screen. kudos to them for opening a new chapter in movie making history. It shows wat cinema is capable of doing. And it gives people wat they come searching, entertainment. even though it cudnt gt oscar, it will find its share of praise at all right places.
What can I rate this milestone but a 10.

a good way to pass ur afternoon!!

Its full of drama. Looks like an ordinary film. But one fact changes the whole thing. It’s a true story. U just cant believe it. Its amazing to see power of reality. How same scenes n dialogues create a different effect altogether on u now, wen u know it happened actually.
That’s ‘Dog day afternoon’ for you. A movie of 1975. But don’t leave it just bcos its old. It doesn’t matter at all wen there is Al pacino giving his best performance of all time. Mind you he was young at that time. And what energy he sparks into the movie!! Awesome!!
A one line story for curious ones, a bank robbery plan goes awry and events that take place involves whole nation into it. Surprises come up about robbers and before you know u r on their side.
For me most important part of movie is its first frame, when they write on screen, all that u r goin 2 see is for real!!

Verdict: 8/10
This movie also gave me another lead to movie Attica, which I m searching now desperately.

:)Happy watching!!

its a surprise!!!

While I was busy in doing some project work last few days, I couldn’t watch many movies. All I had was memoirs and hope. Memoirs of an awesome movie I saw last and hope that I’ll find something as interesting again after this work is over.
Zodiac is a must watch. It’s a suspense thriller of ’07 based on a true story of a serial killer hunt. I hadn’t heard of it before but it turned out to be a surprise treat. Some people may complain over the length of the movie (2 hrs, 45 mins), I however wished for movie to go on and on because it never goes dull. It moves at its own pace covering time period of 60’s to 2004. I realize that I have a fetish for cinema that reconstructs old times, so I may be biased for such movies. And Zodiac slowly interests, then challenges and surprises you. Sheer virgin entertainment!!
What to say more, it made my day!! My verdict- 9

weird is fun!!

I was looking for a Eva green movie. A little research in imdb and I knew I have one with me, Dreamers. Many of you might have already watched it cos it was released in 03. However sometimes missing movies can also be fun since u gt to see them wen u r desperately looking for a good movie.
It’s a experimental movie in backdrop of student riots of ’68 in France. It starts wid a boy (Michael) who arrives france for studies and turns into a film-buff. Story turns interesting when he meets 2 more cinephiles Eva and her brother Theo and shifts into their house. They enjoy a lot together since they share common interests but he finds them weird, as they are still living innocently in their childhood with intimate bond between Eva and Theo. Eventually Eva falls in love with Michael but he cant adjust to the fact that they are always three and never two. He tries to separate them but fails. Movie ends open ended abruptly wen they bcom a part of riot and Michael separates from them since he don’t believes in violence. There r regular references to old movies, explicit sexual scenes and hint of gay relations in the movie.
I loved the movie bcos it was about movie lovers. U can c the love for the films in each act of the them. Michael says he always sees films in front row bcos they reach him first, as if fresh. Eva and Theo though living weirdly wer happy together, hence wen Michael tries to separate them, u feel bad for them. Dreamers has a easy flow where u just hv 2 sit back and njoy.
My take away from the movie, live life not by ny standards but by ur likes.
And ya b a cinephile.
my rating to movie-7
ps: if u want to know wbt ny particular movie, send me a message!!

the backpack theory

How much does your life weigh? Imagine for a second you are carrying a backpack I want you to pack it with all the stuff you have in your life. everything from a TV to ur home. heavy isnt it? now suppose that u wake up in the morning and backpack is gone. exhilarating!! u can start afresh, go for ur dreams, do watever u want.
now fill backpack with people u know, ranging from ur acquaintance to relatives and intimate ones. feel pressure on shoulders. make no mistake, relationships are heaviest components in life.
Whats ur choice? Moving fast or slow. This is the question ‘up in the air’ presents to you.
It starts with a girl, fresh out of college, who has joined a firm whose job is to ensure easy exit of fired employees. George Clooney, who plays her mentor, is a workaholic man who runs from relationships. He helps her change to face emotional challenges bt ends up changing himself.
Anna Kendrick has done a good work. Clooney is as usual excellent.
My rating- 8
My pick on the dilemma, moving together even if it slows me. I believe in enjoying the journey rather than worrying for what’s at the end. But sometimes to appreciate what u hv, u need to empty ur backpack and see what u want to keep back. Avoid all temptations. Put only what u need. This way u’d avoid dragging un-necessary weight. It happens with everyone. Remember wen u leave a room u hv lived for years, how u leave many things behind. Now think what was stopping u from throwing them out earlier. a inertia.
That’s the philosophy, leave inertia behind and see how life can be light and delight.

roll sound, roll camera and .......action

wow!! it feels great to start!!

i was wondering, okay, i m watching 2 to 4 movies everyday, thatsfine but what next? and it was a movie again that gave me answer, ie. julie and julia. its a sweet movie, very aptly introduced as two true stories. it is about a girl who just shifted to a new city with her husband and is emotionally exhausted from listening to complaints on her job. one day inspired by her friends she asks her husband she want to write a blog but donno what to write. he tells her to write abt sumthng she likes most ie cooking. so she takes a challenge to make all 524 recipes in a year from cookbook by julia which is her favorite and write about it. and then movie moves on further with her life running parallel into julia's life(flashbacks), how she came to write the book. Meryl streep(julia) is phenomenal in the movie. she has real good chances to win academy this time.

movie is fun, lite and moving at times. overall a must watch.

highlight-direction,editing,cinematography & ofcourse meryl streep.

my rating 8 (see explanation on left)
